Welcome to The Periscope Report…
or TPR in short.
This Report is updated frequently with critically thought-out perspectives on trade topics affecting Zimbabwe, the southern Africa region and Africa in general.
Designed to be a discerning Report carrying insight with depth around the topics of trade and retail, there is effort to go deeper than routine media reports.
The Report is written with an angle to be of benefit to investors, entrepreneurs, business decision makers, policy makers, researchers, journalists, students and enlightenment junkies.
During my postgraduate studies, I researched on Zimbabwe’s trade restrictions (encompassing the well known SI 64 of 2016) in the context of the WTO.
Since 2016, I began interacting with Zimbabwe’s two main retail giants namely OK Zimbabwe and TM PnP as a supplier of manufactured household goods in the FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) category. This gave me in-depth insight into the mechanics of Zimbabwe’s formal retail sector.
This Report is born out of an endevour to follow-up and expand on interesting trade related topics that I encountered during my studies and my decade and a half long professional experience which includes first-hand interactions with Zimbabwe’s retail sector.
I have had an opportunity to work with both private and not-for-profit sectors in the southern Africa region offering technical capacity building in a range of areas.
My writing is informed by all these experiences over and above ongoing research and a desire to keep learning.

Periscope?
Dictionary.com says “a periscope is an optical instrument for viewing objects that are above the level of direct sight or in an otherwise obstructed field of vision, consisting essentially of a tube with an arrangement of prisms or mirrors and, usually, lenses..”.
That explains what I do and what The Periscope Report is about.
